The MMC responsible for Social Services at Ehlanzeni District Municipality (EDM) Cllr Cynthia Hlophe gave her presence to the training of the youth living with disabilities in an event held on the 16th March 2016 at Kamhlushwa Community hall. Among others there was Cllr Bernadette Malaza who was the Acting Executive Mayor of Nkomazi local municipality on the day. The training was hosted by both EDM the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) on the 16th March 2016 at Kamhlushwa Community hall.

The main objective of the workshop was to enable the unable to develop a positive attitude in life and be willing to try out new ideas. That would equip them with knowledge to withstand challenges they are faced with not only in South Africa but anywhere in the World.

In her welcoming remarks Cllr Hlophe urged the trainees not to undermine their capabilities and she said, "Strive to be the new creations from today henceforth. You need to adopt self confidence in all your endeavours in order to yield the best results. God never created you by mistake but he had a purpose. You were born equal with other human beings and should enjoy your rights. During the training sessions you are undergoing a process that must change you to master everything and be active participants".

Cllr Bernadette Malaza said: "We brought this training to you as a caring government because you are an integral part of the society. We want to witness our youth progressing regardless of their beliefs, religious convictions and colours so that we can together move South Africa forward”. This programme has come at the right time as we are celebrating Human Rights during this month”. “Part of recognising the importance of this month we are prioritizing the youth as they are future leaders of our Nation”, he concluded.

The training was divided into three sessions. There was Career Counselling conducted by the Department of Labour, Entrepreneur Basics done by the NYDA and Job Readiness presented by both NYDA and the Department of Labour. On Career Counselling they were advised to conduct some soul-searching of their career paths which should be compatible.

Ms Tersis Nxumalo from the Department of Labor said that, “If you are currently in grade nine (09), by the end of the year you shall have chosen subjects you will proceed with in grade (10) until you obtain your National Senior Certificate at grade (12). You also have an option to TVET Colleges and any other tertiary institutions. It is therefore wise to wisely  select subjects which will channel you towards what you have discovered to be your future career”.

When coming to the Job Readiness session they were trained on self-assessment, job hunting, preparing a CV and excelling in interviews. Ms Beauty Matlala from NYDA said, “Many people do not recognize the specific contribution they have made in their lives like the achievements attained. It is not uncommon to say, I just did my job' or I was just a secretary. An achievement is something you should be proud of and consider well executed",

Practicals were conducted after the training and one of the youth members said "This day was not a waste of time as we learned a lot and thanks to Ehlanzeni District Municipality".
