Executive Mayor of Ehlanzeni District Municipality Cllr. J Sidell was born in Mbombela at Kabokweni. She did her primary education at Victory Park Primary School. She then proceeded to Middleburg Combined School where she completed her secondary education. Her tertiary qualifications include among others a diploma in Advanced Municipal Governance from University of Johannesburg, a Project Management course from Wits University as well as an Executive Leadership programme from the University of Pretoria She has extensive experience as an Administrator and Technocrat. She worked for the Department of Health and Social Development as well as the Department of Human Settlement as an Assistant Director and eventually Acting Director responsible for the Human Settlement Ms Sidell is a seasoned politician with vast experience in serving the people. She served in a number of ANC structures as well as Union structures. She is currently the Regional Secretary of Ehlanzeni ANC Women’s League. Her role in second term Local Government started in 2000 where she was elected as a PR Councillor both in Mbombela Local Municipality and Ehlanzeni District Municipality. The Deputy Minister(DM) of Social Development Ms Hendrietta Bogopane-
"Take it from me, as I stand here today if there's anyone among the pregnant women who is drinking alchohol I can garantee you that you are going to give birth to a disabled child". The Executive Mayor Sidell also sounded very emphatic on the request to reduce and ultimate stop of drinking of alcohol as it brings no good results to anyone in the society.
In response to that call Mr Grant Liversage from South African Breweries (SAB) acknowledged the damage which alcohol can do to pregnant women and the public in general and as a result he pledged 3 million to the development of Hlayisani Community Centre.
Mr Jabulani Matsane from the liquor board also promised tighten clauses that says no one to sell alcohol to pregnent women & underage persons. If any business person is found guilty of such, may loose their trading licence. But the liquor traders were not having solutions as to how are they going to see if any women is pregnant and uder aged.
The DM has assisted vision Project Mikinzo which she said was initiated by the Minister and is led by Pastor Maria from Nsikazi. She also exposed the critical issues for a need to strengthen Local Economic Development(LED) to play a role in uplifting the community. A young pregnant lady was blessed by the Executive Mayor Sidell along with the MEC for Social Development Ms Busisiwe Shiba with a baby sleeing court & a lot of newly born baby's clothes. The DM also pledged to add 600 beneficiaries on the current number of beneficiaries to receive foodparcels from Hlayisani Centre. People with albinism received their much needed (sunscreen, hat, lip balm) for free on the day.
